I’m very excited to be launching my campaign for election to King County Council District 4 to succeed King County Councilmember Larry Phillips, who is not running for re-election. I’m especially gratified that he immediately endorsed me as have Governor Jay Inslee, all Democrats on the County Council, County Executive Dow Constantine, Sheriff John Urquhart, Prosecutor Dan Satterberg, Seattle Mayor Ed Murray, all the Democrats on the Seattle City Council, and all the Seattle delegation of legislators representing Seattle districts.
As I am unable to accept campaign contributions while the Legislature is in session, I am requesting your help with my campaign by making a donation now while we are in between the regular session and the special session convening next Wednesday, April 29th.
You can contribute online at jeannekohlwelles.com until midnight Tuesday night or mail a check to Friends of Jeanne Kohl-Welles, PO Box 9100, Seattle, WA 98109, postmarked through Tuesday.
Your donation would mean a great deal to me and would provide the means for me to win this election and represent District 4 which includes all of the 36th L.D. and parts of the 32nd, 43rd, and 46th LDs.
It’s been an incredible privilege, honor and pleasure representing my constituents in the Washington State Legislature over the past 23 years in Olympia in what has been the most significant work of my career. Throughout my legislative tenure, I have steadfastly striven to be accessible, responsive and effective. I’ve consistently worked collaboratively to achieve common-sense solutions on very challenging issues, while maintaining strong Democratic principles and values. I’ve fought for social justice and economic equity causes and have been a leader in advocating on behalf of the safety and well-being of children and vulnerable adults, victims of human trafficking, commercial sexual exploitation of children, and domestic violence; the arts, film and cultural heritage; medical marijuana reform; and for strategies addressing homelessness, affordable housing, and discrimination.
On the King County Council, I’ll bring forth the same values and tackle the same issues, including ones of long importance to me, e.g., promoting pay equity, environmental sustainability, and transportation choices; and eliminating income inequality and racial disproportionality in the adult and juvenile justice systems.
I thank Councilmember Phillips for his service, and wish him well in his retirement. He’s been one of the most thoughtful and effective community and political leaders I’ve ever known. He will be sorely missed but his legacy and hard work will not be forgotten. I look forward to continuing his important work on the Council and on behalf of you. And I am especially honored and grateful that Larry has endorsed me in this campaign.
Thank you in advance for your support and contribution!
